Georgia Homeowner Jailed After Calling Police On Alleged Squatter
Loletha Hale ended up behind bars after calling police to remove an alleged squatter from her Clayton County, Georgia home.
The ordeal began in August 2024, when Hale discovered Sakemeyia Johnson living in her home and reported it. While Johnson was cited under the Georgia Squatter Reform Act, Clayton County Magistrate Judge Latrevia Lates-Johnson later ruled Johnson was not a squatter because she was related to a previously evicted tenant’s partner.

The conflict escalated on Dec. 9 when Hale, thinking Johnson had vacated, returned to clean the home. According to an incident report, Hale allegedly removed Johnson’s belongings and told her to “leave before I get my g*n.” Authorities said Hale lacked the required writ of possession to legally evict Johnson.
Hale was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and making terroristic threats. Johnson, who filed for bankruptcy during the dispute, has not been charged.
