NBA Star Ja Morant Faces Backlash For Gren@de Celebration Following $75,000 Fine For G*n Gesture
Ja Morant sparked controversy again with a new in-game celebration on Tuesday night, opting for a grenade throw after sinking a 3-pointer against the Charlotte Hornets.
The Memphis star mimed pulling a grenade pin with his teeth before tossing it at the Hornets’ bench, covering his ears to simulate an explosion.
This gesture comes after Ja Morant was fined $75,000 for his previous finger gun celebrations, which led to a public warning from the NBA. Despite the fines and criticism, Ja Morant dismissed the backlash, claiming he’s “used to it” and has been a “villain for two years now.”

His antics haven’t deterred him, as he helped lead the Grizzlies to a 124-100 victory with 28 points, five rebounds, and eight assists.
This incident follows two separate 2023 suspensions for flashing a gun on Instagram Live, leading to counseling and an apology where Morant acknowledged his past mistakes and vowed to work on himself.
