Trump Signs Executive Order Requiring Truck Drivers To Be Proficient In English
Donald Trump signs another order.
The president has signed a new executive order reinforcing an existing federal requirement that commercial motor drivers, including truckers, must be proficient in English. Trump claimed the rule “has not been enforced in years,” which is unverifiable.
The order reads,
“My Administration will enforce the law to protect the safety of American truckers, drivers, passengers, and others by upholding the safety enforcement regulations that ensure that anyone behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle is properly qualified and proficient in our national language, English.”

Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s White House press secretary, told influencers at a briefing that “there’s a lot of communications problem between truckers on the road,” calling it “a public safety risk.” She added,
“We’re going to ensure that our truckers, who are the backbone of our economy, are all able to speak English. That’s a very common sense policy in the United States of America.”
So far, Trump’s team hasn’t explained how the order will be enforced.
