Ex-NFL’er Larry Johnson Pleads No Contest for Allegedly Strangling His Ex-Girlfriend in Las Vegas

‘Memba him? His name is Larry Johnson and he used to play for the Kansas City Chiefs and is the ex-boyfriend of reality TV star/TV personality Julissa Bermudez. Some of us were introduced to him on ‘Empire Girls’ as Julissa came to grips with the fact that their relationship had come to an end, and the 33–year-old had moved on and started a family (he was allegedly engaged and had a child in a new relationship after he and Julissa broke-up).
There have been a few reports alleging that Mr. Johnson has some temper issues, including an incident that happened last year. Reportedly, the former NFL running back was accused by his ex girlfriend of strangling her to the point of unconsciousness. When police showed up to the scene, Johnson was apparently so heated by the accusations that he yelled:
I’ll rip your f**king vocal cords out!
This week, he plead “no contest” as part of a plea deal to avoid jail time. He will have to serve one year of probation, 48 hours of community service, six months of counseling classes and a $345 fine. He was a first round draft pick in 2003, but had a number of issues with the law and coaches and several injuries. His career officially ended in 2011. After the hearing he had stated:
I’m just happy to have this behind me and go back to Florida and stay out of trouble for once.
