Issa Rae Lands Role In Paul Feig’s ‘American Princess’
Insecure‘s season may have just ended, but Issa Rae is already back to work. Paul Feig, who is responsible for the female-centric comedies Bridesmaids and the recent Ghostbusters reboot, is working on a new romantic comedy titled American Princess and has tapped Issa Rae to star in the film.
Everything, Everything’s Stella Meghie has been tapped to direct the new project and alongside Fieg, Jessie Henderson and Brendan O’Brien will also produce.
The film will center around Issa’s character who is an American woman who moves to London and falls in love in the most unexpected way after finding herself drawn into a world of wealth and high society. A production date has not been revealed but in the meantime, you can catch Issa Rae starring as activist April Ofrah in The Hate U Give with Amandla Stenberg.
Issa first garnered attention for her work on the YouTube web series Awkward Black Girl.She subsequently gained further recognition for creating, co-writing, and starring in the HBO television series Insecure. For her performance in Insecure, she has received two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Since 2011, Rae has continued to develop her YouTube channel, which features various short films, web series, and other content created by people of color.
