Kenan Thompson Steps In As Host Of White House Correspondents’ Dinner
“Saturday Night Live”/Nickelodeon veteran Kenan Thompson just booked one of the most controversial gigs of his career. After replacing the usual comedian host with historian Ron Chernow last year – Kenan will host the annual White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner this year, according to reports. The dinner is described as:
“…a non-partisan event that supports the work of the WHCA to protect the role of independent news media coverage of the president.”
Netflix’s “Patriot Act” host, Hasan Minhaj, will serve as the event’s featured entertainer. Jonathan Karl, chief White House correspondent for ABC News and president of the WHCA, said this about Kenan Thompson and Hasan Minhaj:
“Kenan and Hasan are two of the most engaged and engaging entertainers in America. I’m thrilled they’ll help us celebrate the role of a free press in our democracy. We’re looking forward to a lively evening honoring the most important political journalism of the past year.”
Kenan Thompson’s choice to perform for the White House raises an eyebrow, considering Donald Trump’s controversial views on race. Ironically, Trump hasn’t attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in the past three years. Thompson’s political affiliations are unknown, but he gave this quote last year on the POTUS’ “SNL” portrayals:
“I think anything overly repetitive gets a little tiring. But it seems like there’s just Trump fatigue in general. So we’ll see how that plays out. It seems like there’s a new day approaching.”

Kenan Thompson will host the WHCA dinner on April 25th. He has yet to publicly comment on the event.
