Tyler Perry Warns Black America: A Lot Of People Who Died Lacked Vitamin D
Media mogul, Tyler Perry is expressing his concerns with the effects of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), which has killed thousands nationwide, many in the African-American community. On Monday (April 27th), Tyler Perry, 50, took to his Instagram to spread awareness on how a vitamin D deficiency could impact someone’s fate with COVID-19, particularly blacks.
In the clip, the filmmaker says although the vitamin can’t be linked to stopping or curing the coronavirus, Tyler Perry says he has spoken with doctors on vitamin D’s effects with “immune and respiratory health.” He begins his message by addressing any confusion on his medical advice.
“This is not a cure for COVID-19. Please, hear me clear. This is not a cure for COVID-19”
He later adds,
“Because we are African-American people, we are naturally deficient because of the melanin in our skin. It blocks out vitamin D, okay. It blocks out vitamin D. For the most part, not all of us, but for a lot of us, just don’t like to be in the sun and that’s where vitamin D comes from. It comes from the sun.”
Perry also adds,
“See your doctor if you can, or call them if you’re doing Telehealth and ask them about checking your vitamin D. Don’t nobody go to the hospital right now. I know it’s been difficult to do.”
He ends his message on the importance of raising levels of vitamin D during the ongoing health crisis,
“Vitamin D can help with immune and respiratory health.”
As Perry mentions, research has shown that counties that have a majority of black residents have three times the rate of infections, and almost six times the rate of deaths as counties where white residents are in the majority, according to reports. In cities such as Chicago and Washington D.C., more than 50% of reported coronavirus deaths have been African-Americans. Health experts point to research showing those who suffer from obesity, high blood pressures, and diabetes are at a higher risk for the virus.
Earlier this month, the decorated filmmaker revealed the unfortunate death of his long time crew member, Mr. Charles Gregory, to the coronavirus. The Emmy-nominated celebrity hairstylist, who worked with both Perry and Viola Davis, revealed on March 25 that he was diagnosed with the deadly virus.
However, as reported over the weekend, Perry is reportedly slowly working on a safe and strategic plan to reopen his iconic 330-acre studio.
According to reports, he plans to test all cast and crew members who check in on the first day of shooting for the coronavirus. Those who test negative will be allowed into the studios and will stay there until production wraps. There are said to be tons of sleeping spaces considering 40 houses sit on the lot.
