Idris Elba’s Netflix Series ‘Turn Up Charlie’ Canceled After 1 Season
Idris Elba may be having a rough month. After catching, and beating the coronavirus, Nexflix has recently announced that it will be canceling his new show Turn Up Charlie. The series became available to the public via Netflix on March 15th, 2019. The show centers on Idris Elba’s character, titular Charlie, as he tackles his final chance at becoming a successful DJ.
In addition to his role in the series, Idris Elba was also an executive producer. Netflix released an official statement to thank him for the work he put into the show and to announce its cancelation.
“Turn Up Charlie will not return for a second season. We’re especially grateful to star and executive producer Idris Elba, who turned his passion for DJing into a witty, heart-warming comedy series. We’re also thankful to executive producers Gary Reich and Tristram Shapeero and co-executive producers Martin Joyce and Ana Garanito, along with the dedicated cast and crew, for bringing this story to life on Netflix. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Idris on future projects.”
According to reports, the show was loosely based on the actor’s real life. Idris Elba started out as a DJ before he’s acting career took off. He’s even DJ’d London and at New York’s legendary Output venue.
So far, Idris Elba hasn’t commented on ‘Turn Up Charlie’ being canceled.
