Kehlani Pushes Celebs To Support Experienced Activists Instead of Organizing Their Own Protests: Let’s Not Endanger Our Following
R&B singer Kehlani (full name Kehlani Parrish) took to Twitter with a message for her fellow celebs, suggesting they should stay in their lane. She tweeted on June 4:
“With absolutely the deepest respect and love – us “celebrities” have social responsibility. Not sure it’s the time for US to be organizing events, protests, etc.. the work exists. amplify it. caring a lot is good, placing that care behind strategic radicalized minds, is great”

Instead, Kehlani urged celebrities to support activists who do the work on a daily basis and assist in amplifying their message. She wrote,
“it’s a redundant point from me i know, but i’m getting peers who really care hitting me up like let’s organize a protest it’s not our place to organize it. unless you been in that space for years with the background, epic we can either be helpful or potentially dangerous”
Recognizing the power of celebrity and potential for the message to be lost in their fame, Kehlani concluded her thread by complimenting fellow celebs for caring enough to be on the frontlines.
“BUT ITS REALLY GREAT THAT WE ALL CARE SO MUCH! lets not endanger our following”

A few days before that, she made headlines for criticizing the music industry’s Blackout Day Tuesday (June 2nd). She tweeted,
