Nas Clarifies Doja Cat Lyrics: I Was Just Saying A Word That Rhymed

Update #3 (Aug. 23rd): Nas is explaining his lyrics where he name-dropped rapper Doja Cat in his latest single “Ultra Black” and said he actually didn’t mean to diss her. He clarified during an interview,

“I just really was saying a word that rhymed with ‘Ultra Black.’ I didn’t think of it. It’s all love. It was just like… Michael Blackson black… It’s bars, it’s lines, we play with words, man… The song is fun, it’s all about having a good time.”

Update #2 (Aug. 15th): Rapper Doja Cat doesn’t seem too pressed about Nas dissing her in a song, causing both of them to go viral.

Doja Cat hopped on TikTok and while it seemed like she was getting ready to address the song, she went another route instead. She said,

“I’m so offended and upset by this song. Have you guys heard ‘Fruit Salad’ by The Wiggles?”

Original Story (Aug. 14th): Rapper Nas doesn’t seem to be a fan of fellow rapper Doja Cat. On August 14th Nas, born Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, released a new single called Ultra Black, and unapologetically name-dropped Doja Cat. He raps,

“We goin’ ultra black, unapologetically black
The opposite of Doja Cat, Michael Blackson black”

Ultra Black is the single for Nas’s 13th studio album King’s Disease, which is set to be released on August 21. As exciting as it is for Nas to be dropping a new project, many people couldn’t help but notice his diss towards Doja Cat in his single. Her name became a trending topic on Twitter as fans shared their reactions.

As previously reported, Doja Cat made headlines earlier this year after reportedly participating in racist chatrooms. Footage was leaked online of the ‘Say So’ rapper on TinyChat, 4chan, and RedPill, which are all known for people making racist comments while in the chatrooms.

Following the backlash she received over being in the chatrooms, Doja Cat released an apology to her fans.

“I want to address what’s been happening on Twitter. I’ve used public chat rooms to socialize since I was a child. I shouldn’t have been on some of those chat room sites, but I personally have never been involved in any racist conversations. I’m sorry to everyone that I offended. I’m a black woman. Half of my family is black from South Africa and I’m very proud of where I come from.”

Doja Cat also faced criticism over an unreleased song that was leaked called “Dindu Nuffin, where she uses the n-word. She gave her fans an explanation and an apology for that as well.

“As for the old song that’s resurfaced, it was in no way tied to anything outside of my own personal experience. It was written in response to people who often used that term to hurt me. I made an attempt to flip its meaning, but recognzie that it was a bad decision to use the term in my music. I understand my influence and impact and I’m taking this all very seriously. I love you all and I’m sorry for upsetting or hurting any of you. That’s not my character, and I’m determined to show that to everybody moving forward. Thank you.”

This past July, the 24-year-old biracial rapper shared a tweet blasting people who seem to have an issue with her being of a mixed race.

“Remember when people said I was black when I had a #1 along side 3 other black women but now the same people wanna say I’m white? Maybe I’m not the one here with “identity issues”. :)”
