Beyoncé & The NAACP Kick Off Housing Relief Program For People Facing Evictions Amid COVID-19
Beyoncé is reaching into her good samaritan bag again. On Thursday, January 7th, applications officially opened for Beyoncé, via her BeyGOOD Foundation, and NAACP’s housing relief initiative. The purpose of the link-up between the two organizations is to help people who may need housing assistance amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. According to the BeyGOOD Foundation’s official Instagram account, the housing grant will provide $5k to ‘those impacted by the housing crisis caused by the pandemic.’

The NAACP also posted a statement about the initiative on their website. It reads,
“The NAACP is committed to helping ensure African Americans maintain their wealth and financial security during this unprecedented time of COVID-19. We are partnering with BeyGOOD to provide one hundred grants up to $5,000 each to families who are delinquent in their home mortgage or rental payments.”

This isn’t the first time that Beyoncé & the NAACP have teamed up in the spirit of helping people during the pandemic. Last July the BeyGOOD Foundation and the NAACP joined forces to offer grants to small black-owned businesses. Their Black-Owned Small Business Impact Fund provided selected businesses with a grant of $10,000 to help keep their doors open amid the pandemic. A statement released by the NAACP said,
“Over the last couple of months, the pandemic and outpours for justice throughout the Black community and across the country has been felt in every imaginable area of our lives, including in how our local businesses continue to operate. The challenges of Black business owners navigating in the climate cannot be understated, as the effects of uprisings across the nation have led to many businesses being placed in dire straits due to damages and other small business needs.”
The statement continued,
“The NAACP is delighted to administer a meaningful program in partnership with BeyGOOD’s Black-Owned Small Business Impact Fund to assist our small business communities that have been directly impacted by the recent events across the country. The grants in the amount of $10,000 will be offered to Black-owned small businesses in select cities to help sustain businesses during this time. The NAACP is proud to partner with BeyGOOD to help strengthen small businesses and to ensure economic empowerment for Black businesses.”
