Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine To Open A Public High School In Los Angeles
Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are giving back to the youth in L.A.
The L.A. Board of Education gave the duo the green light to open a new public high school in the city earlier this month.
The school is now being called Regional High School No. 1, but it’s not clear if that will change. It will be located at Audubon Middle School in South L.A.’s Leimert Park community.
Students who don’t live in the area will be provided with transportation.
Jimmy Iovine explained the dreams and hopes he and Dr. Dre have for the students in an interview with The Los Angeles Times.
“This is for kids who want to go out and start their own company or go work at a place… like Marvel, or Apple or companies like that.”
Dr. Dre said his desire is to inspire “the younger me” and added,
“This is something new and different that might excite the kids and make them want to go to school.”
Jimmy Iovine added that it is “nowhere near a music school,” but also said a priority will be to help students bring out their creativity. It’s likened to the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy that opened in 2013.
The school is on track to open next fall.
Dr. Dre also took time to speak on the brain aneurysm he suffered in January, encouraging black men to take care of themselves.
“I’ve always been a person that has always taken care of my health. But there’s something that happens for some reason with Black men and high blood pressure, and I never saw that coming. But I’m taking care of myself. And I think every Black man should just check that out and make sure things are OK with the blood pressure.”
