Simone Biles’ Boyfriend, NFL Player Jonathan Owens, Had No Idea Who She Was When They First Met

Simone Biles and her boyfriend, NFLer Jonathan Owens, have been going strong since going public with their romance last summer, but now he’s revealed he had no idea who the history-making Olympian was at first.

He opened up about their relationship on Simone Biles’ new Facebook Watch series Simone vs. Herself. 

The Houston Texans player said,

“Her work ethic was really the first thing that caught my eye. I never really watched gymnastics before I first started talking to her. When I met her, I honestly didn’t know who she was. It was just kind of like, ‘Oh, she’s got a lot of followers. You know, she must be pretty good or something.”

He added that that’s even how he would describe her to other people and found out she’s an all-star gymnast from their reactions. He said,

“That’s how I would tell people, and they’re like, ‘Simone Biles?! You for real, the gymnast?!’ And I’m like, ‘Man, she’s good like that?!’ Like I didn’t [know].”

While he didn’t know the magnitude of her fame and sports skills in the beginning, it’s safe to say he’s a fan now. He added,

“The coolest thing for me is I get to witness someone who’s literally in the pinnacle of their sport. It’s motivating just to see that and the impact she has on people.”

He recalled,

“We were walking past this group of girls and they were shaking like ‘…It’s Simone!’…This is kinda when I knew. I was like ‘Okay, yeah, she’s the real deal.'”

Rumors that Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens were dating started last July when they celebrated his birthday together.

It’s not clear how long they were together before their social media posts.
