Michael Blackson Opens Free School In Ghana
Congratulations are in order for Michael Blackson!
The 50-year-old actor/comedian opened his own school in Ghana! The Michael Blackson Academy – which is located in his hometown of Agona Nsaba – will offer free tuition to all students that attend.
On Tuesday (Jan. 3) Michael Blackson was present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of the school. He took to his social media and shared footage of the event, which included live performances, a tour of the building, speeches, and more.
In a heartfelt post, Michael Blackson wrote:
“Today is the greatest day of my life because I’ve finally accomplished what I always wanted to do which is giving these kids a chance to be great. Greatness starts with education and foundational education shouldn’t come with financial barriers.”

In December, the “Next Friday” actor thanked his fans for their support, which he shared ultimately played a part in his dream of opening the school coming true. Blackson said,
“Finally, it’s all done and the kids in my village will all go to school for free. Thanks to all my fans that supported me thru out the years, every ticket you bought to my show helped a kid.”

The Michael Blackson Academy first went under construction in 2020 and was completed last month. Reportedly, the school is scheduled to open before the end of January.
Michael Blackson isn’t the only one showing Ghana some love and appreciation, rapper Vic Mensa is helping bring clean drinking water to the motherland.
As previously reported, he and Chance The Rapper will be in the country spearheading the Black Star Line Festival on Friday, Jan. 6. Aside from hosting the star-studded event, Vic Mensa is also driving an initiative to provide three villages with safe water.
He said,
“We’re building 3 boreholes in different communities in Ghana to provide clean drinking water; the first being the Asokore Zongo in Koforidua where my family lives, which is already built.”
The rapper shared he was inspired to take action after witnessing the harsh living circumstances Ghanaians experience, including tainted water, so he teamed up with his father, who is from Ghana, to launch the effort.
Vic Mensa added,
“The other locations are a nearby community called Effiduase and then our ancestral village in the Volta Region, Amedzofe. Most people in communities like this in Ghana experience constant waterborne diseases.”
