Marsai Martin Gets Emotional While Speaking On Her Disney Series ‘Saturdays’ Being Canceled: ‘They Never Really Know How To Promote Black Television’
Marsai Martin got emotional as she opened up about the unexpected cancellation of her Disney Channel series Saturdays after just one season.
During a recent appearance on Keke Palmer’s podcast, Marsai Martin was asked why the show was pulled, and her response was heartfelt:
“Girl, only God knows. I think it’s because they never really know how to promote Black television. It just kind of got overshadowed with a bunch of other projects in the lineup.”

As the executive producer of the series, Marsai Martin reflected on the disappointment, particularly for the young stars, noting that the three main leads were Black girls and the show could’ve been their breakthrough.
Saturdays, which aired from March 24 to May 12, 2023, followed three best friends navigating their teenage years at a Chicago roller rink. The series starred Danielle Jalade, Daria Johns, and Peyton Z. Basnight.
