Rep. Buddy Carter Proposes Renaming Greenland To ‘Red, White & Blueland’ In Bill To Secure U.S. Ownership Under Trump
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) has introduced a bill authorizing President Donald Trump to negotiate the purchase of Greenland from Denmark, reigniting a proposal with significant geopolitical implications.
The bill includes a suggestion to rename the island “Red, White, and Blueland” if the acquisition is successful.
According to Carter’s statement, the Secretary of the Interior would have six months to update federal documents with the new name. While Donald Trump has long expressed interest in Greenland, citing its strategic value due to natural resources and Arctic access, Denmark has repeatedly rejected selling it.
However, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has shown openness to increased U.S. military presence on the island. A separate bill, the “Make Greenland Great Again Act,” also seeks to initiate negotiations with Denmark.
Despite Denmark’s reluctance, the proposal may lead to expanded U.S. military operations in Greenland rather than full ownership.
