Amanda Seales Talks ‘Insecure’ After Party Controversy: We’re All Professional People

Amanda Seales says all is well on the set of HBO’s “Insecure.” Amanda Seales has been questioned about her role on the show after she detailed how Vanessa Anderson, the publicist for the star and creator of the show, Issa Rae,  allegedly kicked her out of a Black Hollywood Emmy’s party in September.

At the time, she documented the moment on her Instagram stories and said,

“For the record, I am being denied entrance to the Black people’s Emmy party. And it’s a White woman telling me I can’t go in. I just want to put this on record that I’m literally being told, ‘You cannot get entrance into a party that Jesse Williams invited you to.’ It’s the only Black event for the Emmy weekend, because a white woman is telling me I can’t get in. But I’m fine.”

After rumors circulated that her “Insecure” cast mates failed to stand up for her publicly, speculation spread that there were issues between her and the co-stars. But if you ask Amanda Seales, there’s no tension. She says,

“The beauty is that we’re all professional people who have worked together for four seasons. And I think we all understand that there aren’t even enough black shows for us to even let that scenario bleed over into what we’re doing. So I’m fortunate to be able to work with folks who understand that. And I think what a lot of people don’t grasp is that when you’re doing television and you’re doing this work, you’re still at work.”

Still, considering how closely everyone works together, it’s only a matter of time before natural issues occur. Amanda Seales added,

“We’re friends on the show, but even on the show there are strained moments and ups and downs. So if you’re on the set every day for 15 hours a day, there are going to be those things too. Things happen.”

She also shared a snapshot from the “Insecure” fitting room, so it’s clear she’s still been on set recently.
