Aaron Hernandez’s Brother Says Late NFL Star Opened Up To Their Mom About His Sexuality
The sexuality of late NFL star Aaron Hernandez has become a topic of conversation since the Netflix film about his life and death debuted earlier this month.
In Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez, there were suggestions and hints that he was homosexual or bisexual. His fiancée Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez spoke out and said she had no idea he was possibly attracted to men.
“[He was] certainly a man to me. There was no behavior that made me think differently…I would not have loved him any differently. You can’t describe someone’s sexuality without them being here. Although I have a child with Aaron, I still can’t tell you how he was feeling inside. No one can.”
“If he did feel that way or if he felt the urge, I wish that I… was told. And I wish that he- you know, he would’ve told me, ’cause I wouldn’t, I would not have loved him any differently. I would have understood. It’s not shameful and I don’t think anybody should be ashamed of who they are inside, regardless of who they love. I think it’s a beautiful thing, I just wish I was able to tell him that…You start to feel for people that may be hiding inside how they really feel. And I…feel awful for that.”
Now, his brother Jonathan Hernandez, revealed during a sit-down on “Dr. Oz,” scheduled to air Thursday (Jan. 30), that Aaron Hernandez told their mother he was gay when she went to visit him while in prison. Aaron Hernandez was serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. He took his own life in April 2017.
Jonathan Hernandez said,
“He’s like, ‘Mom you’re going to die never knowing your son.’ Then all of a sudden they have this conversation and they’re both flooded with tears across from each other.”
He said he remembers
“the weight of what’s on my brother is being expressed and for a mother to be looking at it across from the scratched glass.”
Their mother is reportedly the only person Aaron Hernandez spoke to about his sexuality.
Jonathan Hernandez responded when asked what would happen if Aaron Hernandez told their father Dennis Hernandez, who passed away in 2006.
“I don’t know if he would have been able to finish his sentence.”
“I can’t imagine him even being able to — my dad would have thought he could beat that out of him.”
Reports have claimed that he killed Odin Lloyd in an effort to keep his sexuality a secret. Jonathan explained,
“That’s one of the questions and, you know, head scratches that they still have regarding really this entire case. There’s just so many questions regarding everything. And, for me to sit here and say it was this or that, I can’t say. All you can do is look at the evidence that was provided.”
