R. Kelly Is ‘Social Distancing’ In Jail To Avoid Coronavirus, Lawyer Said He ‘Doesn’t Know’ If Singer Is Washing His Hands More

R. Kelly might be in jail, but he’s still social distancing like the rest of us.

The nationwide mandate of social distancing was handed down in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic, in hopes of stopping the virus from spreading at even quicker and uncontrollable rates.

And R. Kelly’s lawyer said the singer, who’s waiting for his trial for child pornography and other related charges, is taking part.

Steve Greenberg said, according to Vulture

“I think it’s fair to say that he’s trying to follow the same advice as the rest of us, and be smart, and you know, stay away from others. He’s practicing whatever level of social distancing you can practice in jail.”

He continued,

“He’s concerned because he’s in probably the worst possible situation, in terms of social distancing, that you could be in.”

Still, social distancing isn’t much of a change for R. Kelly, as Greenberg said he’s been by himself during most of his time in prison. He said,

“He is not in isolation, nor has he asked to be put in any isolation. He generally stays in his cell as much as possible, so that’s sort of like the rest of us who are living at home. I don’t know that you can totally isolate.”

R. Kelly still reportedly has a cellmate.

As for taking further precautions to avoid the coronavirus, Greenberg also said he wasn’t sure if R. Kelly was washing his hands any more than usual.

“It’s a jail, so I don’t know.”

His comments come just after another jailed celebrity, movie director Harvey Weinstein, reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus.
