NBA’s Chris Paul, LeBron James, Russell Westbrook & Steph Curry Had Private Call About Resuming Season

Chris Paul, LeBron James, Russell Westbrook & Steph Curry Reportedly Among NBA Superstars On Private Call About Resuming Season

All hands were reportedly on deck during a private conference call Monday (May 11th), which included some of the NBA’s biggest superstars who discussed the possibility resuming the currently suspended season amid the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, according to reports.

On the mini all-star call, the president of the players association, Chris Paul reportedly organized his fellow NBA stars including the likes of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, and Russell Westbrook.

Reportedly, players are in favor of resuming play despite continued stay at home orders being extended throughout the summer, including LeBron’s home state of California.

To add, NBA commissioner Adam Silver reportedly informed players their health could possibly be at risk and couldn’t guarantee the safety of the players if the season resumed. However, the group’s decision is expected to hold significant weight in the decision-making process for the rest of the league.

LeBron James

In a recent interview, LeBron spoke on resuming the season. He tells ESPN,

“I believe once [the pandemic is] under control and they allow us to resume some type of activity, I would love to get the season back going. I feel like we’re in a position where we can get back and start to compete for a championship, get back to doing what we love to do, making our Laker faithful proud of us, of being back on the floor. And if it’s in one single, isolated destination … if it’s Las Vegas or somewhere else that can hold us and keep us in the best possible chance to be safe — not only on the floor, but also off the floor, as well — then those conversations will be had. Just figuring out a way.”

In addition, the NBA commissioner has been on record leaving the league’s return up in the air. Silver says in late April,

“We are not in a position to make any decisions, and it’s unclear when we will be.

In reaction to the league’s long-awaited return from the health crisis, the NBA plans to withhold 25% of player salaries beginning May 15. The decision was announced on April 18th and was made in conjunction with the National Basketball Players Association and will be expected to continue through the course of the coronavirus outbreak.
