Andrew Gillum Comes Out As Bisexual
Andrew Gillum, who rose to national fame during his race for Florida governor in 2018, has come out as bisexual.
Back in March, it was reported that the former mayor of Tallahassee was found in a Miami hotel, intoxicated with a male, and crystal meth. Photos of him lying naked on the hotel room floor leaked and went viral. It was later revealed that the other male found in the room with Andrew Gillum was Travis Dyson, a male escort. After the incident began making headline news, Andrew Gillum announced that he was checking into rehab.
Now, in his first interview since the scandal, he has revealed he’s bisexual. He told Tamron Hall on her daytime talk show:
“You didn’t ask the question, you put it out there of whether I identify as gay. The answer is I don’t identify as gay but I do identify as bisexual. And that is something that I’ve never shared publicly before.”
Also in the interview, Andrew Gillum explained how he felt after the photos of him became a topic of public discussion.
“The reason why I went to that room is probably no different than how anybody might communicate with someone that they are in a friendship/relationship, whatever with. I understand very well what people assume about that. When that photo came out, I didn’t recognize the person on the floor. That was not anything than a person being at their most vulnerable state, unconscious, having given no consent. Someone decided to use a moment where I was literally lying in my own vomit…”
He continued and said the backlash made him question if he wanted to live.
“The truth is that, Tamron, everyone believes the absolute worst about that day. At this stage, I don’t have anything else to have to conceal. I literally got broken down to my most bare place; to the place where I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to live, not because of what I had done but because of everything that was being said about me.”
