Megan Thee Stallion: As Soon As Women Start Speaking Up For Themselves There’s An Immediate Attack, If I Have To Be The Example I Will Be
Megan Thee Stallion is getting candid about being a public figure and speaking up for herself as a woman.
While being honored as Glamour’s “Woman of The Year” for 2021, she opened up about how she wants to continue to make an impact.
During her interview, she explained how she’s not just defending herself but also the many women who stay silent. The 26-year-old says,
“The bigger I get, the bigger my platform gets, I start realizing that I’m not the only woman that goes through what I go through, and it doesn’t matter what scale it’s on. Mine is just public because I’m a public figure. I want to bring things to light so other women don’t feel like they have to continue to be silent.”
The “Hot Girl Summer” rapper continued and said women often get criticized for being vocal about what they experience.
“As soon as a woman starts speaking up for herself, there’s an immediate attack. People don’t like it when you are strong and you standing up for yourself. I stand on what I say. I’m very solid, and I’m very thorough. If I have to be the example, I will be.”

Megan Thee Stallion’s comments come amid her legal situation with Tory Lanez.
As previously reported, the singer is being charged with felony assault for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion on July 12th, 2020. If convicted he could serve 22 years and 8 months in prison.
Since the incident, Megan Thee Stallion has taken a stand to spread the message on the importance of protecting Black women. In October of 2020, she performed for “SNL” and made a statement about Black lives being lost, including Breonna Taylor who was killed by police executing a no-knock search warrant at her apartment in March 2020.

Megan Thee Stallion played audio of Minister Louis Farrakhan’s infamous speech in which he says,
“The most disrespected, unprotected, neglected person in America is the black woman. Who taught you to hate the texture of your hair, the color of your skin, the shape of your nose? Who taught you to hate yourself?”
She also wrote in an op-ed for The New York Times,
“We live in a country where we have the freedom to criticize elected officials. And it’s ridiculous that some people think the simple phrase “Protect Black women” is controversial. We deserve to be protected as human beings. And we are entitled to our anger about a laundry list of mistreatment and neglect that we suffer.”
