The mother of ten went on to explain that she’s indirectly effected when someone hurts her children, and was disappointed by Will’s actions. She stated:
“You did a slap but so many things could’ve happened from that. Chris could’ve stepped back and fallen, you really could’ve gotten taken out in handcuffs. You didn’t think.”
Will Smith infamously stormed this years Oscar’s stage and hit Chris Rock after making a G.I. Jane comparison joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. Will’s wife previously spoke about her journey battling alopecia and how it led to her shaving her head. Rose Rock also addressed seeing Jada’s reaction to the slap. She stated:
“You reacted to your wife giving you the side-eye and you went up and made her day because she was mulled over laughing when it happened.”
While Rose says she doesn’t think Will Smith should have lost his award over the incident, she did admit that the 10 year ban from attending the awards wasn’t punishment enough. However, Rose expressed how proud she was of the way her son reacted to the situation stating:
“I wouldn’t take his award away and I don’t see any good way they could’ve taken him out without disrupting so I’m really proud of the way Chris handled it.”
Mama Rock conclusively stated she believes the situation called for Will to reach out to Chris privately stating:
“I feel really bad that he never apologized. I mean his people wrote up a piece saying I apologize to Chris Rock, but you see something like that is personal, you reach out.”
Subsequent the Oscars fiasco, Will Smith was banned from attending the film awards show for 10 years. Will released an instagram apology to The Academy and Chris Rock. As for Chris, he’s opted not to make any public remarks about the incident, claiming he won’t be talking until he “gets paid”.
