‘The Chi’ Actress Jasmine Davis Won’t Return For Season 5, Seemingly Due To Disney’s Response To Anti-LGBTQIA+ Legislation
Jasmine Davis says she won’t be returning to “The Chi” this season.
The Showtime series, produced by Lena Waithe, will lose one of their more diverse cast members as trans actress Jasmine Davis announced she’ll no longer be part of the show. Earlier this week, Jasmine Davis, 30, took to her Instagram to confirm her exit from the production. On a post she wrote:
“Due to the many inquiries I’m officially announcing. I will not be in season 5 of @shothechi and I will no longer be part of #thechi / #disneyproduction .
Sending a BIG THANKS to all of my family and supporters/fans who have embraced me with along this journey.”

The actress adding #disneyproduction seemingly addresses Disney’s role in Jasmine’s departure. Earlier this year, Disney execs caught fire after issuing a “soft” response to Florida’s supposed anti-LGBTQIA+ legislature.
In the newest law, dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, Florida governor Ron DeSantis made it illegal to discuss sexuality in public school classrooms from kindergarten to third grade. Objectors of the bill claim that it unnecessarily marginalizes transgender and LGBTQIA+ youth. Disney has since stated they plan to do everything to fight regressive legislation.
Gabrielle Union, who recently starred in Disney’s reimagined “Cheaper By The Dozen” also publicly criticized the network.
20th Television, which is part of Disney Studios, produces “The Chi”. Season 5 of the show is set to air this June.
