Leslie Jones Defends Rihanna Following Stephen A. Smith’s ‘She Ain’t Beyoncé’ Comment: You Need To Act Like Your Hairline & Back The F*ck Off
Leslie Jones is not here for Stephen A. Smith shading Rihanna.
During an appearance on The Daily Show, which she’s been guest hosting following Trevor Noah‘s departure, the comedian shared her thoughts on the comments Stephen A. Smith made on the daytime talk show Sherri.
Leslie Jones said,
“Dude, no. Why would you do this to yourself? You know what, Stephen A. Smith? You need to act like your hairline and back the f*ck off!”
She continued,
“How dare you call Rihanna ‘sweetie.’ You calling her ‘sweetie’ like you know her. She doesn’t know you! But you know who she does know? Beyoncé.”
As previously reported, First Take host Stephen A. Smith recently issued a three-minute video apology for his remarks about Rihanna‘s upcoming Super Bowl LVII halftime performance. The apology came after Smith chatted with Sherri Shepherd about Rihanna hitting the stage following an eight-year hiatus from performing, Smith said,
“I don’t wanna say I’m not excited, [Rihanna is] fantastic. That’s not where I’m going with this.”
He elaborated,
“Ladies and gentlemen, she’s a lot of things. She’s spectacular actually, and congratulations on new momma hood. There’s one thing she’s not. She ain’t Beyoncé.”
Following backlash, the ESPN commentator expressed how much he regrets what he said, adding that he has to be more careful when choosing his words. Smith said,
“I’m gonna own it. I know what y’all trying to do, but I’m gonna own it because I get paid to speak for a living, so I need to be more careful.”

He continued,
“I want Rihanna to know, you’re a superstar, you’re sensational, you’re spectacular, you’re no joke and you are a worthy person to be doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show.”
In a series of tweets, he added,
“Horrific mistake. Something that was suppose to be a fun moment on the Sherri Shepard show has gotten out of hand. An overzealous member on my MGMT team — which has access to my account — posted something I would NEVER say about @rihanna, her fans or any other artist. The post…”

Smith added,
“Has been removed. My social management team will never make a mistake like this again. My apologies again to @Rihanna. And just to be clear, I’m a huge fan. Sherri and I were just having fun. That is all.”
