Earlier this month, Russell Westbrook was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Utah Jazz in an eight-player deal. However, Westbrook ultimately agreed to a buyout on the remaining $47 million owed on his expiring deal with the Jazz and stay in Los Angeles to play for the Clippers.
According to reports, Westbrook also discussed deals with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards and Miami Heat in recent days, but the chance to compete for a championship and remain in Los Angeles played a significant role in his decision to choose the Clippers.
After a tumultuous season with the Lakers, Westbrook took time to decompress and consider his options. The former MVP played in 52 games for the Lakers this year, averaging 15.9 points, 7.5 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game.
By joining the Clippers, Russell Westbrook is reuniting with his Oklahoma City teammate Paul George. Westbrook and George played two seasons together with the Thunder before parting ways.
The Clippers currently hold the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference at 33–28.
