Damar Hamlin Participates In First Full Practice w/ Buffalo Bills Five Months After Going To Cardiac Arrest During Game
Damar Hamlin is officially back on the playing field.
The Buffalo Bills safety was a full participant during Organized Team Activities on Tuesday, five months after experiencing a near-death encounter while playing the sport he loves.
There was a slightly tense moment during practice when Damar Hamlin apparently needed help getting to his feet after contesting a ball in practice. However, the Bills’ athletic trainers determined the athlete was fine, prompting him rejoin the session with his teammates and continue drills.
As previously reported, specialists “fully cleared” the safety to return to football in April. While speaking to reporters at a press conference on April 18, the Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane noted that the return process for Damar Hamlin was “just like anyone else who was coming back from an injury.”
He said,
“He’s here, and he is of the mindset, he’s in a great headspace to come back and make his return.”
During the press session, Hamlin shared how thankful and grateful he is to have received the best medical care following his cardiac arrest and shared plans to return to the football field. He said,
“My heart is still in it. My heart is still in the game. I love the game. “This event was life changing, but it’s not the end of my story. So I’m here to announce that I’m planning on making a comeback to the NFL.”
Hamlin, a sixth-round draft pick, participated in a practice with the Bills last month, easing his way back into the lineup without donning a helmet or pads.
