Update: Former NFL Star Sergio Brown Pleads Not Guilty To Murdering His Mother
Update: (Dec. 6, 2023): Sergio Brown remains adamant that he didn’t kill his mother.
According to new reports, Sergio has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and concealment of a body in connection to the death of his mother, 73-year-old Myrtle Brown. The ex-NFLer is due back in court for his next hearing in late January.
As previously reported, back in September Myrtle’s body was found in a creek behind her home in Maywood, IL. Authorities quickly issued an arrest warrant for Sergio, who was named as the main suspect in the killing. However, the 35-year-old fled to Mexico before he could be detained. Eventually, he was deported from Mexico and returned to the state where the reported crime took place.
However, before being located, Sergio claimed on Instagram Live that his mother was murdered by the FBI.
He said,
“That’s fake news – she was tired. If you want to come to me, the Maywood police got give me money…FBI had to do it, they got the power to do some sh*t like that.”

As we previously covered, the woman’s body was found in a creek behind her home in Maywood, IL back in September while her son was vacationing in Mexico. The medical examiner determined her death was the result of injuries sustained from an assault, with Sergio being the lead suspect.

Prior to his arrest, Sergio denied his mother was dead, claiming to believe she was on vacation in Sinaloa. He stated in one Instagram live video:
“That’s fake news – she was tired. If you want to come to me, the Maywood police got give me money…FBI had to do it, they got the power to do some sh*t like that.”
Once authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, however, he was deported from Mexico and transferred to a holding area in San Diego before returning to Illinois today. In video footage documenting his initial detainment, the former New England Patriot screamed he was being “kidnapped” and was physically resistant with air marshals, alleging they were trying to take him to Tijuana despite heading for Columbia.
