Update: Brian McKnight’s Son Niko Slams Tyrese For Inserting Himself In Drama w/ His Estranged Father: ‘You Have Relationships To Fix w/ Your Own Children’
Update: (May 7, 2024): Tyrese is being called out by the son of his longtime friend.
As we recently reported, Tyrese came to the defense of Brian McKnight after the masses slammed the fellow singer for labeling his biological adult children as “a product of sin.” Taking the opposite side of radio personality Ricky Smiley — who told Brian’s children he would be there for them if needed — Tyrese said,
“I do not know what that man and that woman or his kids or anything about anything…it is not fair to act as if relationships between men and their children can’t fall apart.”
Well, one of Brian’s children heard what the “Sweet lady” artist had to say and wasn’t pleased with the comments. After sharing memes of Tyrese’s crying face from when he went online to discuss his own parenting problems, Nikolas “Niko” McKnight wrote,
“Tyrese used to sleep under our pool table when I was a kid. I know the 90s RnB brotherhood blood is thicker than anything but you should sit this one out champ. You have relationships to fix with your own children and your own past decisions you’ve made on behalf of p*ssy and power.”
The post continued,
“The allegiance to those two things is what keeps you guys from seeing that the only thing that matters in the end is family. Real men can see past the bullsh*t. Let me stop though. This 46-hr chemo infusion has me ready to fade Jody. That’s not right. Peace and Prosperity.”
Original Story: (May 7, 2024): Singer/actor Tyrese is standing up for his fellow musician Brian McKnight.
The Fast & Furious star recently posted a video in support of the “Back At One” singer after Ricky Smiley criticized his strained relationship with his children.
Speaking about the matter in a video uploaded to Instagram, Tyrese, who also made headlines recently over his own court battle with an ex-wife, addressed his “brother” Ricky Smiley, stating:
“It is unfair in my grown a** man opinion to say that that man and his ex-wife and the mother of his kids, which are now grown adults past 30 years old, whatever their specific dynamic is, there’s a bunch of things that has been said and done over the years that is nobody’s business that has contributed to where they are,”
He continued:
“This is not fair to say ‘well they my kids and….so I ain’t go never not turn my back on my kids’…kids be out here be saying some f***ed up sh** bruh…going above and beyond to cross you. I do not know what that man and that woman or his kids or anything about anything…it is not fair to act as if relationships between men and their children can’t fall apart.”
Tyrese continued, doubling down on his stance that the issues between Brian McKnight and his children should remain between them and out of public discussion. He also suggested that trauma from Brian McKnight’s relationship with his ex-wife Julie, who he was married to from 1990 – 2003 and shares his two oldest sons with, may truly be the root of the ongoing tension.
In case you’re unfamiliar with what’s been happening, McKnight has been under fire since he talked about removing “evil” from his life and referred to his 3 eldest biological children Briana, Niko, and Brian McKnight Jr. as “a product of sin” while answering questions about them last month.
Ricky Smiley is one who has been critical of the Grammy Award winner and recently reached out to Briana, Niko, and Brian McKnight Jr., offering them assistance with whatever they may need. The famed radio personality claimed he was “stunned and horrified” by McKnight’s comments and offered community to his children, stating:
“You are not thrown away, you are not garbage, you are loved, you are to be respected…we are not here to try to replace your father…but we can be something to you.”
Both Brian McKnight Jr. and his mother Julie thanked Ricky Smiley, with Brian McKnight Jr. writing in the comments:
“I really appreciate this man! All we can do is pray for that man now.”
And Julie added:
“Thank you so much”
