Serena Williams’ Husband Defends Her Against ‘Racist, Sexist Clown’ After She Advances To Grand Slam Semi-Finals

Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, is back at it with tennis icon and billionaire Ion Tiriac.

As previously reported, Ion Tiriac made comments about Serena Williams, essentially saying she was too old and didn’t have the body for tennis.

He said last month,

“Serena was a sensational player. If she had a little decency, she would retire! From all points of view. At this age and the weight she is now, she does not move as easily as she did 15 years ago.”

Alexis Ohanian responded on Twitter, calling him a racist.

Serena Williams also addressed his comments and said,

“I always say people are entitled to their opinion. Clearly, there’s more to women’s tennis than me. There’s a lot more, but I’ll have words with him, believe me, I’ll have words with him. It’s an ignorant comment, and it’s a sexist comment, and maybe he’s an ignorant man.”

Now, Alexis Ohanian has called him out after Serena Williams recently advanced to her 40th career Grand Slam semi-final on Tuesday (Feb. 16th). If she takes home the title, she’ll tie Margaret Court’s record 24 wins.

Alexis Ohanian supported his wife and wrote,

“Good thing no one listens to that racist sexist [clown Emoji] Ion ?iriac”

He later defended coming for Ion Tiriac again.

“This is my wife. I have a platform. I have privilege. If I can use my platform + privilege to make a billionaire even a little uncomfortable about racist + sexist statements he’s made, it’s a win. Bonus is that other people will see it and reflect on it.”
