Lil Wayne Asks Judge To Dismiss $20 Million Lawsuit From Former Manager

Lil Wayne wants the $20 million lawsuit against him tossed ASAP.

As previously reported, the A Milli rapper’s former manager Ronald Sweeney sued him for $20 million last December, claiming he helped Lil Wayne establish his 2005 contract with Cash Money. Back then, Lil Wayne and Birdman disagreed on Cash Money’s payout to Lil Wayne’s label Young Money. While Lil Wayne and Birdman reached a settlement agreement in May 2018, and Sweney said in his lawsuit he wants a piece of the pie. He alleged he’s only received a few but Lil Wayne allegedly owes him much more.

He also said in court documents that Lil Wayne wanted him to fire the rapper’s manager and friend, Cortez Bryant in May 2018, because of a conflict of interest amid a legal battle between Young Money rapper Drake and Cash Money. Sweeney said he stepped in and fulfilled Bryant’s responsibilities and convinced Lil Wayne to give him a raise from 10% to 17% commission.

He alleged during their working relationship together he helped oversee 30 lawsuits against Lil Wayne, alleging he

“worked tirelessly as Lil Wayne’s manager and close confidante for nearly 14 years, managing his manages, all of his entities, his ‘friends’, his enemies, and his lawyers”.

Lil Wayne has filed his own documents and asked a judge to dismiss the case entirely, according to Radar Online. 

He alleges in papers that despite Sweeney’s claims, Sweeney was his lawyer, not his manager. The rapper also said he’s paid Sweeney more than $20 million and fired him after discovering

 “Sweeney negligently handled legal matters entrusted to him, charged him an unconscionable fee (one that was double the contingency legal fee customarily charged by lawyers in the entertainment industry), and was paid legal fees without Carter’s consent.”

He also pointed out that Sweeney’s license was allegedly suspended  “more than once during the course of their attorney-client relationship.”

A judge has not ruled on Lil Wayne’s request yet.
