Lil Wayne, Birdman, & Rich Homie Quan, Among Notable Witnesses Who May Be Called To Testify Against Young Thug During RICO Trial

Lil Wayne, Birdman, Rich Homie Quan, and YFN Lucci are among the list of celebs who could be called to testify during Young Thug’s RICO trial.

With jury selection set to begin on Wednesday (January 4), WSB-TV’s Michael Seiden has revealed part of the State’s notable witness list, which includes some A-listers. On Wednesday, Seiden took to Twitter and shared,

“Lil Wayne, Birdman, Rich Homie Quan, YFN Lucci among notable witnesses who could testify against Young Thug during YSL trial. Jury selection begins today. I’m working on posting the State’s list of 372 witnesses.”

Michael Seiden also revealed that a judge granted permission for the defense attorneys of all 14 YSL defendants to view the jury pool as they listen to the indictment. However, this decision came with a warning. Seiden explained,

“Judge Ural Glanville just issued a very stern warning to defendants and their attorneys, making it very clear that if anyone attempts to speak to a potential juror, they will be held in contempt of court.”

The trial is scheduled to begin next week for 14 defendants facing charges in the RICO case, including Young Thug (born Jeffrey Williams).

As you may already know, Atlanta rapper Young Thug and 28 associates, including fellow rapper Gunna, were arrested in May 2022 on conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) charges. Prosecutors claim Thug is a co-founder of the alleged street gang YSL. The indictment also gives a detailed account of various violent crimes alleged members of YSL are accused of, in addition to documents, social media posts, and rap lyrics by Thug that reference YSL.

Young Thug remains in jail as many of his associates, including rapper Gunna, have been released after taking plea deals.

As previously reported, Mounk Tounk (real name Antonio Sledge) was the seventh YSL affiliate to secure his release from prison. Last month he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the RICO Act and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and the judge sentenced him to 15 years on probation.

Reportedly, Gunna (real name Sergio Kitchens) was one of the first people to take a plea deal in the case. The “Me & You” rapper entered what’s known as an Alford plea, in which he pleaded guilty because it was in his best interest while maintaining his innocence.

Gunna was ultimately sentenced to five years in prison, with one being commuted to time served. The remaining four years of his sentence have been suspended and will be subject to special conditions including 500 hours of community service.

In a statement, he said,

“While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.”

Young Thug’s RICO trial is scheduled to begin on January 9, 2023.
