VP Hopeful JD Vance Defends Baseless Rumor About Haitian Immigrants Eating Pets
JD Vance — the Republican vice presidential candidate — has seemingly admitted he’s okay with “creating stories” to get the attention of the press.
During a recently aired interview with CNN, JD Vance was asked to speak on the outlandish claim that Haitian immigrants are eating the pets of residents in Springfield, Ohio. Donald Trump mentioned the baseless rumor last week while debating Kamala Harris, however, a debate moderator quickly corrected him, sharing that the city’s manager said “there had been no credible reports of specific claims of pets being harmed, injured, or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.”

When asked about his take on the pet-eating allegation, JD Vance didn’t show much remorse but instead attempted to justify the claim he and Donald Trump have both backed.
“I’ve been trying to talk about the problems in Springfield for months and the American media ignored it.”
He continued,
“The American media totally ignored this stuff until Donald Trump and I started talking about cat memes. If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.”

JD Vance also claimed that the “evidence” he used to back the rumor was “firsthand accounts” from his constituents. However, countless others have come forward to dispute the claim, including celebrities John Legend, Wyclef Jean, and Garcelle Beauvais.
