Deadly Explosions At The Boston Marathon Kills Three, Injures Hundreds
Less than 24 hours later and we are still trying to wrap our minds around the Boston tragedy. By now, you’ve heard the alarming news … Monday afternoon, two bombs exploded at the Boston Marathon.Three people are reported dead and up to 141 have been admitted into area hospitals after explosions went off at the site. According to CNN, as of Monday night, at least 17 of the victims are in critical condition, and among the deceased was an eight-year old boy. According to details from Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, the first two bombs went off around 2:50pm in close proximity to the finish line – along Boylston Street near Copley Square. The bombs were no further than 100 yards apart. A third explosion occurred nearly an hour and a half after the initial detonations at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, which is about 5 miles away from the Marathon finish line. Officials are trying to figure out if the blast were related. The Boston Athletic Association who organized the race sent its deepest sympathies out to all those affected by todays terror attack and issued a statement saying,
Today is a sad day for the City of Boston, for the running community, and for all those who were here to enjoy the 117th running of the Boston Marathon. What was intended to be a day of joy …and celebration quickly became a day in which running a marathon was of little importance.”
CNN is reporting that the FBI have taken the lead in the investigation and are currently looking for a “darker-skinned or black male, with a possible foreign accent,” as a potential suspect for todays attacks. Investigators cannot say for sure if this act of terrorism is of a foreign or a domestic nature. The Feds are stating that they have a “number of early leads and sources.” President Obama stated in his address to the country:
Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice.”
The Boston Marathon had an estimated 27,000 runners participating in todays ‘ competition.
