President Trump’s Tweet About ‘Racist Baby’ Is Flagged By Twitter For Having ‘Manipulated Media’
President Donald Trump seems to be in the hot seat with Twitter yet again. On June 18th President Trump shared a video to his Twitter account that showcases a little black boy running away from a white boy who appears to be about the same age. The video has the official CNN logo on the screen and text towards the bottom that reads
“Terrified Todler Runs From Racist Baby”
The video, which appeared to be from CNN, then cuts to a black screen and features text that says
“What actually happened”
After showing the two little boys simply playing with one another the black screen appears again, this time with a final message that eventually reads
“America Is Not The Problem – Fake News Is – If You See Something, Say Something – Only You Can Prevent Fake News Dumpster Fires”
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 19, 2020
The issue with the video that President Trump tweeted is that it’s been altered and isn’t the video that was initially shared by CNN. The news outlet wasted no time in correcting the president on his mistake. CNN replied to his tweet – that currently has close to 200,000 retweets – by linking the legitimate story that was covered on the two little boys. The official twitter account for CNN also wrote:
“CNN did cover this story – exactly as it happened. Just as we reported your positions on race (and poll numbers). We’ll continue working with facts rather than tweeting fake videos that exploit innocent children. We invite you to do the same. Be better.”

In addition to CNN’s response, Twitter posted a “manipulated media” warning underneath the president’s tweet to warn people that the video has been altered.
This isn’t the first time Twitter has had to flag one of President Trump’s tweets. The social media platform posted a warning label to view a tweet he sent out in May of this year regarding the protest and riots that took place due to the wrongful death of George Floyd.
