It’s no secret that former NBA star Dwayne Wade has been in full support of his daughter Zaya’s (formerly Zion Wade). He and his wife, actress, Gabrielle Union, have stood right by Zaya’s side as she has courageously faced both support and criticism of the world.
Dwayne Wade announced Zaya’s identity on the Ellen Degeneres Show (February 11),
“Me and my wife, Gabrielle Union, we are proud. When I say proud, we are proud parents of a child in the LGBTQ+ community, and we’re proud allies as well. We take our roles and our responsibilities as parents very seriously. So when our child comes home with a question, when our child comes with an issue, when our child comes with anything, it’s our job as parents to listen to that, to give them the best information that we can, the best feedback that we can. That doesn’t change because sexuality is now involved in it.”
Well the support doesn’t stop there. Dwayne Wade took to his social media to represent his support for the LGBTQ+ community and what it stands for, rocking a multicolored graphic tee with “PRIDE” underneath it. He captioned the photo:
Gay pride or LGBT pride is the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people as a social group. Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements! #WeSupportEachOtherWithPride
He also posted Zaya Wade-embedded, pride-colored shoes to match, simply saying,
Pride @zayawade
Dwayne Wade, the father of 4, (1 that he shares with Gabrielle Union), has been unapologetic since announcing Zaya’s identity change and he’s made clear that he uses the proper “She” pronoun when referring to her.
In a 2019 Instagram story post, he shared a photo of Zaya, Gabrielle Union, and their daughter Kaavia. He captioned it,
“My Girls”
It doesn’t look like the Wade family will fall back on the LGBTQ+ love any time soon. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments.
