Rapper Vic Mensa Pleads Guilty To Possession Of LSD & Mushrooms After Returning From Ghana
Vic Mensa has pled guilty to misdemeanor drug charges and will do no jail time.
According to reports, Chicago rapper Vic Mensa, 29, can get back to making music after working out a deal with prosecutors as he faced a felony narcotics possession charge.
The deal was made in Loudon County, Virginia and required Vic Mensa to plead guilty to one count of possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, a class one misdemeanor.
According to court documents, Mensa was sentenced to one year in jail, but the sentence was suspended as part of the plea deal. He will instead have to undergo one year of unsupervised probation.
In addition, the “Wraith” artist will have to take a substance abuse assessment, perform 25 hours of community service, and pay a $1,000 fine, but he’ll get 50 percent off that fine if he completes the terms of his probation.
As previously reported, Mensa was arrested in January at Virginia’s Dulles International Airport after returning to the U.S. from a trip to Ghana. He was charged with Felony Drug Possession after U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers found LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, and capsules in his luggage. The Grammy-nominee was released from jail shortly after his arrest.
Reportedly, the Chicago native uses the drugs to help him deal with mental health struggles and says he hopes the ‘silver lining’ from his arrest is that there
“will be increased focus on the effectiveness of psychedelic drugs in the treatment of mental illness.”
