Michael Jackson’s Pepsi Commercial Leather Jacket Expected To Sell For $460K At Auction
Michael Jackson fans will have the chance to put a pricey bid on one of his most iconic clothing pieces.
According to reports, the late pop star’s famous Pepsi commercial jacket will be put up for auction on November 10 through Propstore. The event — which will be held in London — is reportedly set to auction over 200 original music items as one of the world’s largest auctions of entertainment memorabilia.
In case you didn’t know, Michael Jackson wore the black and white leather jacket during one of his “Pepsi Generation” ads in 1984. In the video, the entertainer dances in the streets with a group of kids to a remixed version of his hit song “Billie Jean.”
The entertainer reportedly wore the custom-made piece for his first Pepsi commercial, making the item all the more valuable. It’s noted that the jacket could be sold for anywhere between $230,000 to $460,000.
Reports state that Michael Jackson gifted the jacket to an individual named Wendell Thompson in 1983 before the ad aired. His father was Jackson’s hairdresser. While Wendell Thompson has cherished the item for many years, he said he plans on using the profits from the jacket to set up his children and family in his will.
The “King of Pop” isn’t the only celebrity to have their items sold for a whopping figure. As previously reported, NBA star Michael Jordan’s famous “flu game sneakers” were auctioned off to a super-fan for a total of $1.38 million earlier this year. Michael Jordan wore the classic kicks during Game 5 of the 1997 NBA finals in Salt Lake City, where he scored 38 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists for the Chicago Bulls while (allegedly) battling food poisoning.
Last year, two tickets for singer Beyoncé’s highly-anticipated tour “Renaissance” were auctioned off for $20,000 at the Wearable Art Gala. Reportedly, the tour package included two concert tickets, first class airfare tickets, as well as a 3-night hotel stay. It appears the package also came with a backstage tour guided by Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles–Lawson. While bidding began at $20,000 for the package, the price tag ultimately ended at $150,000.
