Update: Young Thug — Jury Selected After Almost 10 Months For Rapper’s YSL RICO Trial
Update:(Nov. 02, 2023): Young Thug’s long-awaited trial can finally move forward.
According to new reports, a jury has finally been seated in the YSL (Young Slime Life) case. As you may recall, selecting a jury for the trial has been a bit of a roller coaster, with some potential jurors even being arrested for disobeying courthouse rules.
Thankfully, after almost 10 months since jury selection started, those who will have to decide the rapper’s fate have been chosen. On Wednesday (Nov. 1) it took around four hours to select the final 12 qualified jurors and six alternates.
Young Thug’s trial is expected to begin on Nov. 27.

Original Story: (Feb. 21, 2023): Jury selection remains slow in Fulton County’s RICO trial involving rapper Young Thug and more than a dozen other defendants.
According to reports, it’s been over a month and a half and still not one juror has been selected in the trial of Young Thug, legally known as Jeffery Williams. Hundreds of potential jurors have been summoned to the Fulton County courthouse where many have requested hardship deferrals, which the judge has approved due to the possibility of the trial taking up to a year.
As you may know, Young Thug was arrested back in May 2022 on charges of participation in street gang activity and conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
Thug is accused of leading Young Slime Life (YSL), a violent street gang that used drugs and committed murders to make money. However, defense attorneys argue Thug is just an artist falsely accused of being a criminal. Defendants in the case claim that YSL is not a criminal entity, and not to be confused with Young Stoner Life Records, the music label Thug founded.
Legal experts say the case will be complicated and drawn out due to the 31-year-old being such a well-known star, reports state. Officials also say alleged attempts to smuggle contraband to defendants have contributed to delays.
The latest update surrounding the high-profile RICO trial is the now-viral footage of Thug’s YSL associate Lil Woody seemingly informing law officials of an alleged forthcoming murder. According to Lil Woody, the plot seems to involve Thug, as well as rival gang member YFN Lucci.
As we previously reported, YFN Lucci, born Rashawn Bennett, 32, was arrested back in May of 2021 on racketeering charges. The “Everyday We Lit” artist remains in jail ahead of trial. Reportedly, YFN Lucci and his fellow YFN members have maintained beef with fellow incarcerated rapper Thug and his YSL group.
With both musicians’ trials coming up, the Atlanta DA has steadily shared details regarding alleged gang activity and crimes committed and ordered by the rappers. With the newly surfaced interrogation video, it seems more evidence is being unearthed. The clips seemingly show YSL associate Lil Woody – with lawyers, officials, or colleagues – appearing to insinuate that Thug and Lucci are involved in a planned murder attempt. Though Woody initially withheld details of the alleged assassination, he eventually cooperated.
