Aretha Franklin To Be Honored W/ Pulitzer Prize, Makes History As 1st Individual Woman To Receive Special Citation Since 1930

The accolades and tributes for the late Aretha Franklin keep on coming! Months after her tragic passing, Franklin is now being awarded a Pulitzer Prize. She is now the very first individual woman to receive the special citation honor since its original award was issued in 1930.

The Pulitzer Prizes shared the news on Twitter.

It said Franklin deserved the honor thanks to her contribution to American music for over 50 years with her iconic songs like Respect and Chain of Fools, according to reports.

Franklin certainly made a name for herself before she passed away on August 16, 2018. She was 76. On top of selling millions of records, she’s won 18 Grammys and several other awards. She also took the stage for inauguration ceremonies of a number of former U.S. Presidents like Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter. 

Congrats to Aretha Franklin for this amazing honor!
