Zendaya & John David Washington’s Quarantine Shot Film ‘Malcolm & Marie’ Sells To Netflix For $30 Million
Zendaya and John David Washington’s quarantine film, “Malcolm & Marie,” closed on a $30 million deal with Netflix as the streaming platform acquires the worldwide rights to the film.
Earlier this year, Zendaya and John David Washington filmed an entire movie during quarantine in 15 days, all while following strict COVID-19 health regulations.
The project was created by Sam Levinson, who wrote the script, produced the movie, and directed it. Sam Levinson is also responsible for creating created HBO’s “Euphoria” which stars Zendaya.
“Malcolm and Marie” is one of the first films to finish production during the pandemic as dozens of studios and film sets have been closed due to COVID-19.

“Malcolm & Marie” follows John David Washington, a filmmaker, and Zendaya as his girlfriend, as they come home from a movie premiere. The movie takes a drastic turn as their relationship is tested in major ways.
HBO and Amazon were reportedly both interested in obtaining the right to the movie.

This news comes amid reports that Netflix is in talks of buying Halle Berry’s film “Bruised,” which served as her directorial debut, for $20 million. She thanked Netflix on Instagram.
