Director Ryan Coogler Admits He Was ‘So Stressed Out’ Making ‘Black Panther’ That He Couldn’t Appreciate The Moment
Ryan Coogler is reflecting on the whirlwind that was Black Panther… and the regret that came with the project.
In a conversation with LeBron James for Interview Magazine, the director admitted he was so overwhelmed during the film’s first installment that he didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of what was unfolding.
“To be honest with you, Bron—and it’s one of my great regrets—I was so young while we were making it, and so stressed out, that I didn’t appreciate what was happening, man,” he shared. “There were a few moments where I’d be like, ‘Oh man, this sh*t is getting crazy.’”

Coogler acknowledged the impact of the Marvel film, pointing to Kendrick Lamar’s involvement and the “incredible work” of Michael B. Jordan and the late Chadwick Boseman. Still, behind the scenes, he said he was struggling:
“I was dealing with impostor syndrome. I couldn’t appreciate the moment.”
