Russell Westbook Traded To Houston Rockets For Chris Paul & Multiple 1st Round Draft Pick
Reunited and it feels so good! NBA superstar guard, Russell Westbrook has been reportedly traded to the Houston Rockets on Thursday evening in another blockbuster trade that has rocked the NBA. Westbrook, who is a former teammate of Rockets star, James Harden, approached the Thunder front office about his future with the team, including the possibility of a trade, according to reports at the beginning of July. Fast forward to this week, Westbrook was traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Rockets’ Chris Paul and several future draft picks all the way into the year of 2025.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to trade Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for Chris Paul, first-round picks in 2024 and 2026, pick swaps in 2021 and 2025, league sources tell ESPN.
With the Rockets reuniting two former MVP guards who started their careers together with the Thunder, Rockets reportedly believed that the age difference between Paul, 34 and Westbrook, 30 gives their squad a better chance to compete for a championship. Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta tells ESPN how excited their team is to welcome Westbrook apart of their organization,
“We’re excited to have Russell Westbrook. I would watch him play for Oklahoma City, and he’s so athletic. At the same time, this franchise just had the two years with the most wins it’s ever had in consecutive years, and we wouldn’t have accomplished that without Chris Paul. Chris Paul is unbelievable, and he’s gonna be sadly missed.”
As previously reported, the blockbuster trade came soon after Paul and Rockets star guard, Harden’s relationship allegedly went south as CP3 went to Rockets management and demanded a trade. Following his demands, Harden issued a “him or me,” scenario to the front office, which lead to their relationship being labeled as “unsalvageable.” Although, this news came to a surprise to CP3 as he took to Instagram to respond. The Rockets former guard says,
“Damn! That’s news to me…”
CP3’s former teammate, Clint Capela took to Twitter to welcome Westbrook to the Rockets and to send CP3 off to the Thunder, calling him an inspiration. He first tweets to Westbrook,
“What it dooooo brodieee !”
Capela on CP3,
“A great mentor and fierce competitor that helped me grow both as a player and a person. A true inspiration, especially with his relentless drive to win CP3.”
Westbrook has also taken his game to another level, becoming the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double in three consecutive seasons. With several teams around the league signing duo superstar including the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, and now the Rockets, this upcoming season should be very exciting.
