Donald Trump Vows To ‘Personally Vouch’ For A$AP Rocky’s Bail
President Donald Trump has stepped up to help get A$AP Rocky out of jail in Sweden.
Trump revealed on Twitter he’s already spoken with the Prime Minister in the country, Stefan Löfven, who promised that the jailed rapper would not be mistreated. Trump added that they have plans to speak again in the near future.
“Just had a very good call with @SwedishPM Stefan Löfven who assured me that American citizen A$AP Rocky will be treated fairly. Likewise, I assured him that A$AP was not a flight risk and offered to personally vouch for his bail, or an alternative….
….Our teams will be talking further, and we agreed to speak again in the next 48 hours!”
His move came after he spoke with Kanye West, who along with his wife Kim Kardashian West, lobbied the White House for A$AP Rocky’s release earlier this week. Trump tweeted,
“Just spoke to @KanyeWest about his friend A$AP Rocky’s incarceration. I will be calling the very talented Prime Minister of Sweden to see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky. So many people would like to see this quickly resolved!”
He was also hopeful about A$AP Rocky’s release in a press conference. Kardashian thanked Trump on Twitter for his efforts.
“Thank you @realDonaldTrump @SecPompeo, Jared Kushner & everyone involved with the efforts to Free ASAP Rocky & his two friends. Your commitment to justice reform is so appreciated”
A$AP Rocky is currently being held as prosecutors decide if they are going to charge him with assault after he was seen getting into a fight. He has been there for more than two weeks, and a judge ruled Friday that he’ll have to stay because he’s considered a flight risk.
Still, there’s a clear double standard against A$AP Rocky, compared to rapper G-Eazy who was also arrested in Sweden last year. He was accused of attacking a security guard and possessing cocaine.
Jada Pinkett Smith shared her thoughts on Twitter.
“Hold it … G-Eazy got to strike a deal a day and half after possession of drugs and assault charges??? But you’re holding Rocky. We got the message loud and clear Sweden. Trust me … we got it.”
Even G-Eazy spoke out and agreed that “systemic racism” is at play.
“Facts. This is the sad truth…The difference between me and Rocky’s treatment and process in Sweden brings to mind two concepts that disgustingly go hand in hand: white privilege and systemic racism. Let’s call it what it is. He should not be behind bars right now. My heart goes out to my brother @asaprocky and his team. We’re riding for yall. #JusticeForRocky #FreeRocky“
