Dallas Cowboys Star Ezekiel Elliott Is The Highest Paid Running Back In NFL History, Signs 6 Year $90M Contract Extension

The Dallas Cowboys and their star running back, Ezekiel Elliott have officially reached an agreement on a six-year, $90 million extension that includes $50 million guaranteed, according to reports. This new contract with Dallas makes Elliott the highest-paid running back in NFL history. In a post on Wednesday, the Cowboys announced their agreement on Instagram,

The Cowboys star touched my why he feels he should be the highest paid player in his position,

“Because I believe I’m the best.”

The extension follows weeks of an holdouts between the team and their star running back, during which team owner Jerry Jones was criticized for his comments while gathering the best deal. In an interview, Jones spoke to reporters on the team’s negotiations with Elliott. While taking questions, Jones jokingly says,

“Zeke who?”

Following Jones’ interview, the 2-time pro bowler reportedly, “disrespected,” sources tell ESPN.

“I didn’t think it was funny and neither did Zeke — we actually thought it was disrespectful.”

Jones took a much more different approach as he spoke on coming to an agreement on Elliott’s extension. Jones says on Wednesday morning,

“Zeke has been arguably our best player. I’m not trying to be unfair to anybody else. But he’s an incremental part to our success. We’re glad to get him booked in, we’re glad to have him on the team.”

In all, Elliott will earn a total of $103 million over eight years, making the running back the first Cowboys running back to surpass the $100 million in total value.

Since taking Elliott on the No. 4 overall pick in 2016 out of Ohio State, the team has built their offense behind a star-studded O-line and Elliott’s ability to push the ball. In 2018, Elliott became the fifth player since 1932 to lead the NFL in rushing yards per game in consecutive seasons.
