The former Miami Dolphin appeared on The Breakfast Club recently, where he addressed his controversial opinion about NFL champion Russell Wilson’s personality. Back in April, Channing Crowder received major backlash on his podcast The Pivot, after calling Russell Wilson “a square”. Additionally, Channing stated that Russell’s R&B singing superstar wife Ciara only got with him for his money.

The Breakfast Club host, Charlamagne Tha God, asked Channing if he takes back his opinion of the football star. Responding, Channing stated:
“Not at all. Not one bit.”
He continued:
“Bringing up Ciara, bringing up the man’s family, I’ll take that back. But, have y’all seen Russell’s video’s?…[The] goofty sh*t?….I didn’t call him an alcoholic. I didn’t call him a deadbeat dad. I didn’t call him a pedophile, I called him lame!”

“Goodies” singer Ciara wedded Russell back in 2016. The union came a couple years after her infamous split from former rapper boyfriend Future, who she shares a son with of the same name. Ciara and Russell seemingly parent young Future together on a full time basis, as well as the two children they share together Sienna and Win.

TBC Co-host Angela Yee chimed into the conversation, explaining how some people felt Channing’s opinion of Russell was personal, which Channing quickly denied. He stated:
“There’s lame people all around I think….It’s an opinion, it’s what I thought. It’s folks out there that think I’m lame, and I don’t give a d**n. I don’t know why so many people were mad that my opinion of Russell Wilson is a square and a lame.”
Later in the interview, one of Channing’s co-hosts from The Pivot offered his opinion. Fred Taylor believes that Russell is one of the few Black celebrities that “can’t be touched”. He stated:
“He doesn’t understand who in the Black community is protected,”
He continued:
“Certain people you can’t say certain things about and that’s beautiful black love. You can’t violate that.”
Though Channing says he stands firmly by his opinion of the new Denver Broncos QB, he and his other co-host do believe the comment was taken “way out of proportion”.
