Tiffany Haddish On Why She Won’t Confront Mo’Nique Over Remarks About Her DUI: ‘If I Got A Problem With You, I Tell You To Your Face … I Don’t Need To Tell The Whole Wide World’

Comedian Tiffany Haddish is not letting fellow comedian Mo’Nique’s comments about her DUI phase her.

You may recall Mo’Nique blasted Tiffany Haddish on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast’ ‘Club Shay Shay,’ where she aired out her grievances about the ‘Girls Trip’ actress earlier this month.

This entire situation stems back to 2018 when Mo’Nique had a business dispute with Netflix. At the time she claimed she was offered $500,000 for a stand-up comic special from the streaming giant.

Mo’Nique argued that the business offer was rooted in racial and gender discrimination, highlighting how Dave Chappelle and Jerry Seinfeld made $60 million and $100 million, respectively, from their agreements with the network.

But Haddish had a different view on Netflix’s business strategies.

During a 2018 interview with GQ, the ‘Haunted Mansion’ actress said,

“My business runs different than her business. I don’t live her life. I don’t have that husband of hers. I’m looking at how [Netflix has] opened up so many opportunities for Black females and comedy.”

It’s unclear what Haddish was referring to regarding Mo’Nique’s husband, Sidney Hicks, but whatever she meant by “that husband,” Mo’Nique didn’t take it lightly.

During her controversial appearance on ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcastMo’Nique said to Shannon Sharpe,

“When I saw that, it’s like Tiffany: if you had a husband like mine, you might not have two DUIs. If you had a husband like mine, you may not be caught up in what looks like you could have been grooming a child.”

According to multiple reports, Haddish was arrested in Georgia in 2022 for getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated. After that instance, Beverly Hills police found the comedian and actress slumped over in her car, holding up traffic in the middle of the road in a stalled car in November 2023. She was arrested and later charged with a DUI.

Regarding the child grooming allegations, a lawsuit alleges Haddish and Aries Spears made 7 and 14-year-old siblings engage in “sexually explicit skits.” The judge eventually dropped the case.

In a recent interview, Haddish said she didn’t take Mo’Nique’s comments personally because she saw it as an “auntie talking.” She added,

“You know how we do… I was like, ‘Oh dang, I’ve been on your mind, and I didn’t even know I was on your mind!’ So, I’m grateful.”

Haddish reiterated why Mo’Nique’s comments didn’t hurt her,

“She’s not my friend, so I get it. I’m not close to her; we never talked about that, so at the end of the day, I understand and respect her. I do have respect for her, and that’s it.”

Haddish added that she would not fire back at Mo’Nique since she likes to handle grievances face-to-face.

“I’d rather not do anything behind anybody’s back; I’d rather do it to your face. I come from the 1900s; we talk to your face.”

Haddish explained,

“If I got a problem with you, I tell you to your face. I’m 100 with it. Everybody that I have a problem with, they know I have a problem with [them] and not the whole world. It ain’t the whole world’s business. I got a problem with you, Imma tell you. Imma call you. Imma show up to your spot. You gonna know. I don’t need to tell the whole wide world.”
