Cam Newton Reacts To Being Dropped By New England Patriots, Decision Is Reportedly Related To Athlete’s Stance On COVID-19 Vaccination
As people prepare for the 2021 NFL season, Cam Newton has been cut from his team.
Earlier today (Tuesday, Aug. 31st), NFL star Cam Newton was withdrawn from the New England Patriots. Cam Newton, who was with the Carolina Panthers for nine years, joined the New England Patriots after signing a one-year deal back in 2020. He later took another one-year deal with the team back in March.
However, Cam Newton‘s time with the Boston-based team has formally come to a close. After outlets began reporting on the athlete getting cut from the Patriots, various NFL reporters chimed in and offer additional context. One tweeted:
“A couple of factors in play with releasing Cam Newton rather than keeping him on as the Patriots’ backup: His command of the locker room, and his vaccination status. Neither make him an ideal choice as a backup behind a rookie QB.”

Immediately thereafter, another reporter added:
“There wasn’t just one reason that Cam Newton is gone. It was a combination of at least three, I’m told: Mac Jones’ emergence, Newton’s vaccination stance (which caused a bit of a stir behind the scenes) and Cam’s uninspiring performance this summer.”

For context, Mac Jones is a rookie quarterback who played for the University of Alabama. He was a high-interest pick who was ultimately signed-on by the New England Patriots, and he has been named the team’s Week 1 starter. During preseason, Mac Jones also reportedly outperformed Cam Newton.
However, it is worth noting that Cam Newton appears to be in good spirits after getting cut from the Patriots. On his Instagram Story, he wrote:
“I really appreciate all the love and support during this time but I must say… please don’t feel sorry for me. #ImGOOD.”

The New England Patriots’ decision comes a few weeks after Cam Newton refused to discuss his vaccination status. While speaking to reporters on the matter, he claimed:
“It’s too personal to discuss. I’ll just keep it at that.”
